Island Fruit Blend Smoothie

printsgop 1306

This  Island Fruit Blend Smoothie Recipe is one that we do all the time with an added little kick. A meal in a glass.

We put these ingredients into our Island Fruit Blend smoothie , 1/2 cup of fresh or canned pineapple ,  1/4 cup fresh or frozen  strawberries , 1/2  banana , 1/4 cup vanilla yogurt , 6 ounces of sugar free tropical juice  and the kick is 1 ounce of Wheatgrass .  We grow and freeze our own wheatgrass  juice and package it into 1 ounce cups with lids but if you do not have access to fresh frozen wheatgrass you can get powdered through the health food stores.  It does not have the same full power that fresh does but it is still very good for your health. We then add a cup  of ice and blend .

If you use canned fruit use the one with the lightest sugar content and then if  you want to instead of the tropical juice you can use the fruit juice off of the canned fruit.

For the children we have taken the smoothie and put it into popsicle makers and they make a real nice cold nutritional snack . They sometimes won’t drink smoothies but they love popsicles so its a good way to get them to eat nutrition smart and much better then the sugar popsicles that they love so much.

This is a great breakfast  for on the go or just a refreshing snack.

1 ounce of wheatgrass is like eating 2 – 1/2 pound of fresh greens.

Ant killer Recipe !

Spring is coming and with spring come the ANT’S !!

I have a horrible amount of ANT HILL’S in my yard . If they are far away from the house that’s fine I leave them alone but recently I have had some huge ones right near the house.

So I have used my Recipe for getting rid of the pesky little devils. It wouldn’t be so bad but they are RED ANT’S although it works on BLACK ANT’S also.

You will need a plastic bottle like a water or pop bottle.  Put about 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of Borax into the bottle  shake to mix completely then put warm water in about 3/4 full and shake until mixture is totally mixed and clear.  Then out to your ANT HILL you go .  Dig into the hill and lay the bottle into a grove so the ants can access the ingredients in the bottle.  They will take the solution back into their nests and it will kill the nest.   I have used this on three ANT HILL’S that were almost two and a half feet high  with total success.  So I hope this will do the same for you.

If you have small children or pets get a piece of plywood it doesn’t    have to be a huge piece and weight it down so they cannot access it .  The ants will still be able to and it will be safe form your children and pets .

BORAX is POISONOUS !!!   KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN AND PETS !!!

Kids Easter Project !

Another Project for the Kids over Easter Break ! Its not really a recipe but the supplies you need are like one.

Supplies you will need

A dozen eggs ( depending on how many children are going to be participating)  – As may white crayons as children . –   Easter colors in food coloring  –   and as many bowls as the colors you are going to use .

Boil and cool the eggs .  After they are completely cooled give them to the children to draw what ever design they would like on the eggs that they want .

While they are doing that you get the bowls out and fill fairly full with water and add the desired food coloring . Once the children have finished let them roll the eggs around in the food dye with a spoon.  Pick the eggs out of the bowl and put them on a cake rack to dry. You can also go to the dollar store and get little packets of sparkles and other diamond designs which they can glue on and decorate fancy and blingy .  The sparkle the better .  And it will brighten what ever you are going to display them on .

When dry use the decorated eggs to decorate your table or baskets for Easter.  Plus it keeps little hands and minds busy for a fairly long time.

Hope you enjoy this project I know I did when I did it with my girls !

My Take on Oreo Cookies

This next recipe that I’m going to give you is a take on the Oreo Cookie .  I used to make them all the time for lunches for my daughters. The recipe is  very simple but very tasty.

You will need a large bowl , and a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or just a light coating of shortening .

In a large bowl mix  – 2 chocolate cake mixes ,  2/3 cup oil  & 4 eggs

Mix well and roll into balls . Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degree oven for eight minutes .  The will look soft and underdone but firm around the edges .  Take the pan out of the oven and drop it fairly hard onto the counter that will flatten the cookies .  Leave on pan to cool completely . Do not take off until totally cooled !

While cooling ; in a separate bowl  take  4 oz of room temperature Cream cheese ,  2 tbsp butter or margarine either is fine.  2 -cups of icing sugar and a tsp. of vanilla .  Mix until very smooth .

Take the cooled cookies and top half of them with some of the filling and then put the other half of the cookies on top . You’ll have the best cookies ever!

They will disappear like mist under the sun and leaving them wanting more.

Poppy Cock Popcorn

Hi!  I am continuing with the Spring Break and Easter Holiday theme

This recipe can be made with the children and is a ton fun .

Poppy Cock Popcorn

You will need:

The utensils and pans you will need are two well greased wooded spoons , and one lightly greased pan with rim like a cookie sheet .  The you will need a pot for the stove to cook the liquid ingredients.  Non-stick works best.

In the pot put 3/4 cup sugar  , 1/4 cup corn syrup  , 2 tbsps. water mix well and bring to boil turn down to simmer cover and cook 3 minutes keeping you eye on it  uncover and simmer for another 4 minutes stirring at all times.  The ingredients should come up to the hard boil stage 250 – 263 degrees a candy thermometer works best. After it reaches that stage continue to cook for one minute , add 1/4 pound of butter stir until dissolved and pour quickly over the popcorn mixture.  It will start to harden right away so you have to be fast.

4 – cups of popped popcorn  ,  1 – cup mixed nuts , 3/4 cup dried Banana Chips  –   Mix together in a large bowl .

Take popcorn mixture and flatten out with spoons onto the cookie sheet and leave to cool and harden . Then make into smaller portions easy for the kids to eat.

It is very yummy and the kids have tons of fun making it.

Playdough

Spring Break is coming soon to our school  district area  .  So you know what that means .  All the little Kidlets will be home for ten days . What shall we have them do ?   I have just the solution to keep them occupied for at least a few hours a day.

PLAY DOUGH !! –   That is the solution !!

Here is a terrific playdough recipe .  I made it many times when my children were growing up.  They made lots of things some hardened some were wrecked and put back into the container.  They had contests to see who could build the best structure or characters .

You need a large pot  non-stick for this playdough recipe it works the best.  When we made it we didn’t have non-stick  pans . Oh dear I’m dating myself LOL

Take 2 cups of flour  ,  1 cup salt  , 2 & 1/2 tsp. cream of Tartar , 1 tbsp of oil  and two cups of water.

Different colors of food coloring for later.

Sift dry ingredients together , add to  pot along with all the wet ingredients . Cook for around five minutes or until you feel that its all together and done .

Take out the playdough  and split it equal size pieces and take the preferred food coloring add to each piece and kneed in the color.  Have the kids do it with you its part of the fun.

I usually made at least four batches of playdough for larger projects and had multiple colors.  It was definitely a great snowy or rainy day project.  They played for hours.   Give them a plastic knife , spoon , fork  , rolling pin and  cookie cutters anything  that aids in getting the creative juices to flow.

Hope you use this and have fun .  Pass it on to friends

Have a wonderful spring break

Homemade Laundry Soap

Here is a Recipe for Homemade Laundry Soap

This Homemade laundry soap recipe was given to me by a friend who does as much as she can by making her own household products. She searched for this recipe and experimented to see if it works.  She liked it so passed it on to me.

1 – bar of Ivory Soap ,  1/2 cup washing soda , 1/2 cup Borax powder

You will also need a small bucket , about  four gallon size with a lid.

Grate the soap and put it into a large pot on the stove.  Add six cups of water and heat it until the soap melts.  Add the washing soda and the borax and stir until dissolved .  Remove from the heat.  Pour 4 cups of hot water into your bucket .  Now add your soap mixture and stir until totally mixed.  Now add 1 gallon plus six cups of water and stir again until totally mixed.  Let the soap sit for about 24 hours and it will gel.  Use 1/2 cup per load based on a medium sized load.

I have been having success with it for about two years now .  Works great !!

Very cost effective work out to pennies a load .   With the rising costs in everything we have to save pennies where we can.

Have a great day !!!
